Drive One?

Any one wanna help me make up my mind about buying a new vehicle? I can't friggin make up my mind? i'm looking into buying a Ford explorer XLT  2011 with alot of bells and whistles. The damn thing will even be able to parallel park for me which i have a hard time doing on my own.Leather heated and air conditioned power seats, lots of cargo space, voice activated climate control, voice activated navigation system, rear view camera, dual panel moon roof, Bliss-  blind spot cross traffic alert system , just to name a few. Will upload a pic soon. geting tired here.  It's not good for me to be undecisive, however this time around i'm having a hard time jusifying the whole idea of buying new. I never ever purchased a brand new vehicle, i've always purchased previously owned, i'm kinda cheap. Need your votes! How many for Yeas? How many Nays? I'm serious here. fucn help me out please!

  1. nay.
    reason:
    1. a vehicle is just a tool, like a hammer. you replace it only when it's broken or getting old. your current vehicle as far as I know is neither.
    2. you don't really need all the bells and whistles. they will just make you lazy and if you rely on them you will lose your skills. think about it, in rural M., when do you ever have to parallel park? besides, it's not that this shit comes for free, you're paying for it. which brings me to
    3. brand new cars are always overprized. buying used from a car dealership (like a 1 year old vehicle) saves a lot of cash with only minor value decrease. (you can wait and buy the same car next year)
    4. having cash feels good. also it can be used to buy really cool luxury items like birthday and christmas presents for the people around you (like me) and of course for yourself. Like for example a sail boat. didn't you always want a sail boat?

  2. Advice on vehicles? From me? Hmm...

Well, you know the vehicle is going to be good. You know you are going to like it. Now imagine that much money is coming out of your bank account for that long of a period of time. Do you still love the vehicle as much?

I think a lot of people buy things for the bells and whistles and the newness of it all, but those things disappear eventually -- the newness and novelty wear off, and they are still left with the payment.

  3. Very good points everyone. i amazed that finally i'm getting commnets. thank you. I'm now leaning towards not getting a new vehicle after reading your much noted point of views. As for the sail boat idea, No! Luxury bithday gifts? Maybe. Thanks all!

  4. I vote "nay" too. For the following reasons
    1. A new vehicle depreciates a ridiculous amount the second you drive it off the lot.
    2. Bells & Whistles are fun, but expensive and are usual "short turn gain for long term pain".
    3. Those leather seats would need to be heated or you would freeze your but up here and moon lights can be problematic because they can leak and you have to be gentle with them.
    4. I like your current car; it seems reliable, comfortable and economical.
    and most importantly...
    5. You are considering moving somewhere else, why not wait and get something when that happens, Like a "happy housewarming present to me!" (by "me" I mean you)
Bottom line it's your $$$ and your :) and life is too short as it is so do what makes you happiest!
