Day Off

Have the day off tomorrow!!!! In Wpg on a day off!!!!! Is good! What to do? Gotta get my tire fixed. Maybe go to Polo Park spend some more money then back to hotel and relax a bit and work on my speech some more. I'm still sweating over that friggin speech. I must keep reminding myself - We get what we expect. i'm going to do that speech and do it well! Will post some pics from Awards Night and my presentation. I'll be back...

Day-2

Meetings start at 9:30 today. I like that! Over at 4:30 and day off tomorrow!!! How bout that eh? Yesterday's meeting went really well, i was chosen at the last minute to give a testamonial on opening and closing checklist for stores. The person that was supposed to rise up and speak didn't make it to the meetings for some reason. Why I keep getting chosen for stuff like this I really don't know. I do my best to stay out of the spotlight but for some reason every now and then it gets pointed my way. Oh well. Really cold down here again this morning, -30 , with the windchill I'm sure it's must lower. Must go down and face the weather for another smoke.

Yuks, I felt really terrible all day today. I've must have been on my throne 20 times already. I'm starting to feel a little better after eating some salted crackers and a Banana. Things that are supposed to help when you are having a shitty kinda day! what do you eat when you r having a shitty kind of day??? Right now I'm eating Probiotic yogurt to help me with my shitty day. Tea is supposed to be good for you as well, especially herbal teas like chamomile, so that is what I'm drinking right now. I like to know what you eat when you have these kind of days? could you please let me know? I leave you with a short little poem.

POO PANTS

When you get the cramps
You almost poo in your pants!
That would not be good

You just wanna sleep all day
But your digestive system says no way!
So you suffer and suffer til it goes away

When you get the shits
And you are bloating and crampy too
Just remember in your pant is not a good place to poo.

An Old Fashioned January Visit

I could not wait to leave work today and drive home to set the table for a very special someone. A beautiful women came to visit me over the week-end. At Au Richard's we served up an Old Fashioned Ham with a Brown Sugar and Dijon Mustard Glaze. It was terrifical and bursting with flavor. I also served this wonderful woman a South West Ranch Salad that we both thought was very tasty. The Stuffed Potatoes Au Gratin Twice Baked turned out to be something I'll definetly cook again! The Old Fashioned American Apple Pie served warm was very fitting for a cold January night. More than anything on the table, the company was much more enjoyable. The Old Oil Lamp was giving off a warm glow, music turned down low in the backgorund, I certainly outdid myself  with ambiance until I farted myself away from the table, then the whole mood thing went to shits.......

Zodiac Signs- Take a look!

Thought you were LEO, Cancer, Aries????? Copy/Paste or click the link below to read some interesting new discoveries regarding how your Zodiac sign may have changed due to the change in Earth's tilt over the years. I'm no longer Cancer but a Gemini! I'm not really into this kinda stuff, just thought it would be of interest because of the discussion we had last Saturday at Cheryl's dinner party.  After hearing Andrea read me my Cancer "Horrorscope"-LOL, and learing of a future near death experience, I'm somewhat relieved to learn that i'm now a Gemini . there's now 13 Zodiac signs not 12. Wow. what a bunch of crap some ppl have been believing over the years. Not me! anyhow click on this link and tell me your new sign, ok?

I like this little sketch, what about you?

I think it's funny and no more to it than that! enjoy!

Ever wonder Why?

When people blow their noses, you ever wondr why they look into their hankies to see what came out? What in the world do they expect to find?

The sign said, ' This door must be closed at all times.' I don't know about you, but to me it kinda defeats the purpose of a fucn door!

I could be a little insensitive here, but it's only in good humour, but i wonder if there would be less litter around the world if blind people were given pointy sticks... My weally bad!

Ever wonder why people really like to sleep? It's the best of both worlds-you get to be alive...and unconscious!!!!

My very first sketch

This is my first attempt at sketching. This is my nephew Tommy. Tell me what you think because i would like to send to his mom as a gift some day but i'm not sure it's all that good of a sketch. Leave me a commnet and let me know.

Mom's Spicy Chocolate Cake for Hendrik to cook!

You know a recipe must be good if it's a Mom's recipe. I made this cake many times and I think you would enjoy if you tried cooking it.
1/2 cup butter
1 3/4 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup less 1 Tbsp hot water
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup flour
2 Tbsp cocoa
1 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2  cup rolled oats
cream the fucn butter and sugar then add the eggs.
Next stop picking your nose and add the hot water with baking soda mixed in.
Mix dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture. Pour into greased 9x9 cake pan using butter not the grease from your hair and bake at 350 deg for 30 mins. Use the old tooth pick-"clean one" trick to see if cake is cooked. You will love this old fashioned cake especially if you cook up the Caramel sauce icing recipe below. Pour the sauce hot over the cake. Eat, Fart and be happy!
Caramel Sauce
5 Tbsp butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup milk
That's it! Bring to a boil the butter and brown sugar. Add the milk, let's hurry, Richard is hungry, then boil for 3 more minutes.

Doug and Bob Mckenzie in a Boat

This isn't a shot of the real Doug and Bob, they're much better than that! To the left is my brother, Rod , and the guy on the right is my cousin Steve. We went on a cool boat ride and took along the typical LNS " Lower North Shore" survival equipment as you can clearly see in the picture. One isn't allowed in the boat without this very importnat part of the survival gear! It adds to to the overall experience as well. It was a great day, sunny, cool, refreshing, the salt water every now and then landing over your face really brings you back home. We went outside onto the gulf that day visiting old fishing stations, taking in the sights and doing some recreational fishing...sorta!!!! The picture on my Profile shows you a portion of our catch that day-Waved Whelks or Wrinkles as the locals back home would call these things. These are pretty clever guys these two! I was amazed with all the Wrinkle Pots they had out there that day. Every turn we took we were hauling up pots and nets. I don't know where they find the time to manage all this. It was a fantastical day and it ended too soon. I love their crazy sense of humour and their appreciation for nature's bounty!

Apple Pie Undone

I tried this recipe from a magazine, it became a favorite real fast and was enjoyed by 3 guest-Cindy,Hendrik and Cheryl.
6 Tbsp, Plus 1 cup sugar
4 Tbsp flour
Perfect Pie Dough ( see recipe below)
3lbs crisp apples ie: Granny Smith or Braeburn
Juice of 1 lemon
1 tsp cinnamon, more for garnish (optional)
1/2 tsp fresh grated nutmeg ( don't have?, use ground nutmeg, i did)
1/4 tsp salt
3 Tbsp butter ( i use Becel Margarine in all my recipes that call for butter)
Preheat oven to 400
sift 6 Tbsp sugar with 3 Tbsp flour, dust work surface with mixture. roll out the dough to 1/8 in thick. Cust into cookies , any shape, i don't have cookie cutter, i used a glass. transfer to cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Chill for 20 mins. Bake for 8-10 mins.
Meanwhile , peel, core  and slice apples into 1/4 in thick pieces, toss with lemon juice. In a medium size bowl, combine remaining sugar and flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt, set aside.
Heat butter in a large sauce pan over high heat until it sizzles, about 1 min. add apples and cook until softened slightly, tossing occasionally, for 8-10 mins.sprinkle in sugar mixture, mix, and let come to a boil. cook until apples are tender, 4 to  mins. Transfer to a compote dish-Ramekin, or soup bowel with a handle, serve with the cooked cookie doug. I also topped it off with a scoop of Vanilla Bean Ice Cream rolled in cinnamon.
Cookie Doug Recipe
2 cups flour
2 Tsbp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
12 Tbsp unsalted butter cut into small pieces
1/2 tsp Vanilla
Stir together flour and sugar and salt in large bowl.
Use a fork to cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse meal, pea size bit of butter throughout.
drizzle in 1 to 2 Tbsp of ice water at a time up to 6 tbsp in total, tossing after each addition, using only enuf water to make dough clump together. Pat dough into a 4 in circle, tightly cover with plastic wrap and chill for 30 mins. roll out like you would a pie crust and use cookie cutter or glass to cut out cookies. Bake at 400 deg for 8-10 mins. Serve with the apple compote. This will impress your guest with a warm taste of delicious apple compote, and the overall presentation will impress also. Remember i topped it off with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream tossed in cinnamon and the cookie. Yummy in the tummy on a cold winter night. give it a try and enjoy.

My Military Sister

This is my sister, Tracy, barging in on a Shed party, all geared up in a Survival Suit and sober. Just to be goofy I guess, runs in the family, I know ppl I know... She's presently serving in Afghanistan right now for the next 6 months. I could not go without putting her picture in here because I never seem to find the opportunity or the right time to tell her how proud of her I am for what she does on behalf of her country. I could get very political here but i'll refrain because i really don't want my blog to be about politics. I wish her all the best and a safe return back home in due course. Should you find it in you someway somehow to support our troops, please do! The sacrifices they make to find peace and stability in far reaches of the world at great personal risk sometimes must be always recognized and applauded. Thanks Tracy for doing what you do.. I couldn't.

Salmon Bay-Keep your feet on the Ground

What you think you??? Looking for a retirement home??? Salmon Bay was once a thriving little community that once if I recall correctly had it's very own Post office during the summer. Can you believe that?!?!?! There really is not much more to it than what you see here. It once had 3 grocery stores, a theater, lots of Kitchen Parties I'm sure. My Uncle Frank Keats who has since passed on, owned one of the grocery stores located in Salmon Bay. I remember as a kid going to my Uncle Frank's store by boat with my dad and being overwhelmed by all the candy. That's all I really paid attention to. I remember once my dad buying me Vicks cough drops, thinking in my head that it was candy and that no way am I going to share these with my half starved for candy sisters and brothers. These Vicks cough drops are all mine. I ate the whole pack in less than an hour! they were really that good! My family had a summer house not too far from here in a small cove called Pump House Cove/Chevaliers Cove. There were only 4 houses in the cove, my grandfather's, my uncle Lloyd's and a Great Uncle -Tom Keats, and Jack Chevalier's. We lived there in our summer homes from the time school closed in the summer until Fall when the new school year started. We were never bored and I loved being there! Away from the big village of 500 ppl to just us! It was perfect. We had lots of opportunites to explore, pick berries, catch Thorn Fish, Hauling water for our mothers from a brook that seemed like miles away from the house when the buckets had to come back full, dumping shit buckets-no plumbing, having your ass hauled out of bed to haul cod traps before sun rise and me getting sea sick the whole day and start all over again the next...I eventually got over the sea sickness...they finally gave up on me! I was no longer considered useful being in a boat feeding gulls alll day long. I remember once being so sea sick, even after taking fucn Gravol, they put me ashore on an island by myself. Who in their right mind would abandoned a kid on an island all my himself? I guess my father would be the guilty one, but i was very greatful and wondered why he never thought of doing this many times before. I remember being there on that island baking in the sun and being so sick and tired from puking, nothing left in my stomach to puke up anymore, thinking to myself why the fuc do they keep doing this to me. Is this what my future looks like?? I knew in my head that it wasn't going to be! I eventually started feeling better and walked around exploring the island and having as much fun as you possibly can on an Island...by yourself. On a fucking Island in the middle of what looked like nowhere! But... I would rather be there than on a boat being tossed around by the sea with the swells so big, it looked as though the boat was sinking when you no longer can see any glimpse of a shoreline. To this day, i get terrified of puking. It is the worst feeling in the world for me . Gravol made matters worst, on top of being sick, the gravol made me tired and drowsy. I felt like just choking on my vomit at times or throwing myself overboard. Nothing ventured nothing gained I guess! I'm sure there was only good intentions! Had to be. As always, time moved forward and all that became history. I was no longer being groomed for a life of a commercial fisherman. Things were looking pretty good for a sickly little metis boy who coldn't get on a moving vehicle without getting sick. In my teens I found myself  boarding a plane to Sept-Iles to continue my highschool education. The plane didn't get off the runway before I started puking again. Please Jesus, let there be better times ahead for me!

The Bake Apple- CLoud Berry

Yes, this is the Bake Apple Berry as it is know locally back home. Also called a Cloud Berry- " Rubus Chamaemorus" maybe because it looks like a cloud?!?!?! An orange cloud??? Fuck . i really don't know, and I don't even know why people back home call them Bake Apples because they taste nothing like a Apple. They are sometimes sour tasting, tangy, boggy, but good and rich in vitamin C. Why do I have a picture of this strange berry on my blog??? In case some of you followers ever come accross a bog...not Blog.... or Marsh, full of these somewhere in your travels let me know. They are only found from what I gather in certain parts of the world..where I'm from... LNS Quebec, Northern Manitoba, certain areas in the USA, Sweden, Norway, Finland,Germany,Russia, England, Ireland . I once came accross them in a Bog in Northern Manitoba- Shamattawa believe it or not. The residents of Shamattawa have their own name for this berry but I really can't remember what they call this strange berry.
Other names for cloudberry:
England: Knottberry
Cree Innu: Shikutew
Trivia:
A Norwegian municipality of Nesseby has a cloudberry in it's coat of Arms.
Cloudberry fruit leaves are displayed on a Finnish 2 euro coin.
Swedish National Democrats have the male cloudberry as their logo.

A Map because no one has a clue where I'm from me.

LNS
I grew up on this rugged stretch of coastline where I spent many days getting sea sick. For some reason being sea sick did not appeal to me much, so I left home and very rare did I ever look back. I must say however, it is a most remarkable part of Quebec. The lanscape is beautiful if you can ever find a day without blackflies flying up your nose and down your throat to get out and explore and appreciate the wild scenery. Sometimes even the wind cannot drive these little bastards away!I still love it there no matter and miss it a great deal at times. It was best described by Jaques Cartier- " The Land God Gave To Cain" and I can understand why he would make that statement. My family still lives there, they are a great bunch of people with great respect for the land and everything it has to offer- including the famous BakeApple. Mmmmm Bake Apple Pie, wish I had me some!
